Stuff happening in places with people doing things!

Busy week coming up, boys and girls, as part of the run-up to The Broken Kingdoms’ launch. A list:

  • Sunday, Oct 24: I’ll be reading from my short story “The Effluent Engine” at Steampunk Day at the Dumbo Lofts, here in NYC. Then I’m leaving on a jet plane, and…
  • Wednesday, October 27: I’ll be in London! Reading at the BSFA meeting there, and getting interviewed in person by Niall Harrison. ::wibble:: Might also be doing a Q&A with Orbit UK; more on this later. Then…
  • Saturday, Oct. 30: I’ll be doing a signing with Karen Miller at Forbidden Planet! Was totes planning to go just to see Karen, who’s my bud — we roomed at Romantic Times together, and had great convos about politics and publishing and stuff. But now I get to sign with her too! Cool!

Alas, I won’t be going to World Fantasy Con this year; chose to go to London instead, as a little thank-you to myself for finishing the Inheritance Trilogy. But as you can see, workaholic that I am, I can’t quite keep myself from doing a little promo. So if you’re in London or thereabouts, come out and see me!

To anticipate your questions: Yes, I will be putting up chapter 3 of TBK as a sample before I go, as otherwise I may not have ‘net access. Yes, I will be doing a special giveaway of The Broken Kingdoms on November 2, which is both Launch Day and Election Day for those of us here in the US; the giveaway will have something to do with proving you’ve voted, so don’t forget! Yes, for those of you who are wondering, I’ll be taking pictures of London. (Am thinking about doing my own personal Matthew Swift tour!) Will post them here as I can, though I might have to wait ’til I get back. And why yes, I am determined to acquire some sticky toffee pudding somewhere, because that stuff is the food of the gods. (Well, maybe just Sieh. But he counts.)

No, I’m not bringing any of you presents. Might bring NukuNuku something, tho’, since she’ll be putting up with a housesitter for a week.

  1. Re: your tiny text

Aww, kitteh. Is Miss NukuNuku a good girl or a bad girl when you have to go anywhere?

    Re: everything else:

I can’t wait for BK, but oh cruel fate that it should come out in NaNo month! Now I have to decide if I’m going to try and read it and write at the same time, or save it until Dec. as a reward for winning. Decisions, decisions …

  2. Wow! Sounds like an exciting week! Wish I was a little closer to London! But it’s a bit of a stretch from Denmark (well, for a still-poor ex-student, at least). But I hope you have a marvelous trip and that London treats you well. :-)

Just pre-ordered BK from Amazon UK — can’t wait!

  3. Broken Kingdoms is already out at the bookstore I work at. I will be reading it tomorrow The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is selling so well at the store, we were sent 10 copies first time out of Broken Kingdoms. The book is now featured on a display near Sci fi section. Once again I am loving the cover

    Enjoy London.

  4. Hi, as a big fan of The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms who lives close to London, I am really cursing my luck that I will be away in another part of the country this weekend and won’t be able to make it to your signing! I hope you have a really great time in London.
